The African Big Five: The Lion and the Buffalo

English version:

THE AFRICAN BIG FIVE: THE COLORED LION AND THE AFRICAN BUFFALO

In the year 2013 the first coin of the MCI series THE AFRICAN BIG FIVE appeared, the Leopard (there were two versions, antique finish and antique finish/colored). In 2014 the Lion in the antique finish version followed – and then it became quiet around the series. Now the second Lion of 2014 eventually is available, using a new coloring technique named Vivid finish for a more lifelike appearance of the furry animal. Accompanied is the lion by the next animal of the Big Five Club, the African Buffalo (antique finish version).
The Big Five are the african animals most sought after by the big game hunters of the colonial era: Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhinoceros and Buffalo. Fortunately the big game hunt doesn't play such a big role in african tourism nowadays, and the term Big Five today is mostly used to describe the animals which are the most prominent representatives of the rich african fauna. The African Buffalo was choosen to join the club above all because he is a very dangerous prey – the reason too why he never was domesticated like so many of his relatives.

Deutsche Version:
